18 de outubro - Re-imagining the PhD supervisor’ feedback on doctoral student' writing from a decolonial lenses

Roxana Chiappa

In this essay, I argue for the need to include decolonial lenses in the process of theorizing about and enacting the role of doctoral supervisor, especially in regard to the instances in which doctoral advisers provide feedback to doctoral students' writing. Academic writing is one of the major processes through which doctoral students develop their identity as independent researchers.
My understanding of the importance of including decolonial lenses in the field of doctorate education comes primarily from my experience of working as an international doctoral supervisor in South Africa, where decolonization of academic curricula has been one of the major demands imposed by student movements within the last decade.
